The Coast Guard is a federal law enforcement agency of the United States. Established in 1790, it is the oldest active military service in the United States. The Coast Guard has a fleet of over 270 ships and over 12,000 personnel. The Coast Guard is divided into seven regions and 33 districts. The service conducts maritime law enforcement, search and rescue, environmental protection, drug interdiction, and border security. The Coast Guard Headquarters is in Washington, D.C.
